Sushi Ooga Higashiyama
Architectural fittings crafted with “Sumushiko”, made from narrow flat‑split white bamboo, for Sushi Oga Higashiyama in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district. Carefully arranged strips of finely split white bamboo create delicate vertical lines, resulting in a design that conveys a quiet tension and dignified presence. By subtly varying the spacing between each bamboo strip, the surface gains a nuanced, gradated expression that avoids monotony. Washi paper applied to the reverse side gently diffuses light, and in harmony with the texture of the white bamboo, creates a calm and serene atmosphere. Through meticulous attention to detail within a simple composition, these fittings bring out the inherent beauty of the materials themselves.
