Obusedo

In Obuse Town, Nagano Prefecture, we completed the bamboo installation “Shinari” as part of a new hospitality project by Obusedo. Designed as a permanent installation, the work combines elegant curved expression with structural durability. To achieve this, a dedicated metal substructure was carefully designed and fabricated in advance. On this framework, 90 bamboo slats, each about 8 meters long, were used to form a nine wave-like composition. Installation took place over three days under the direction of designer Oliver Franz. The craftsmen carried out meticulous on-site adjustments, carefully reading the unique tension and natural tendencies of each individual bamboo piece. As bamboo is a natural material, many aspects cannot be fully controlled through drawings or numerical calculations alone. By accumulating tactile knowledge and experience through handwork, the team was able to create a smooth, organic flow that permeates the entire space. “Shinari” is an installation series by Takesada Shoten that transforms the inherent suppleness of bamboo into spatial expression.
