Masari Gusa
For this project, an inuyarai fence was created at an exclusive guesthouse. The bamboo was painted black to create a chic and subdued impression. The hollow structure of the inuyarai allows it to be used as a smart cover for trash bins or gas and water meters, combining practicality with design. This is a prime example of how bamboo exterior elements can harmonize function and aesthetics. Traditionally, inuyarai was installed to protect exterior walls from mud splashes and dog urine, but today it is widely appreciated as a symbolic traditional design element of Kyoto.
