A green bamboo inuyarai was manufactured and installed for a restaurant in the Gion area.
To harmonize with the exterior of the traditional Kyoto townhouse (machiya), the piece was produced using green bamboo in a traditional specification. For this project, a small opening door was incorporated into part of the inuyarai to allow access to equipment such as the gas meter. The bamboo elements were fixed using kaeori-kugi (traditional bent nails), achieving both refined detailing and a traditional method of construction. As a column protrusion was present on site, the final finishing was adjusted on location and installed to fit the existing building precisely.
