The Making of Roasted Bamboo

Roasted Bamboo, Yakishiratake (焼白竹) is a Japanese technique in which surface burning reveals a striking pattern on the bamboo—a process that may appear simple but requires true craftsmanship. The artisan must carefully control the fire’s intensity and move with precision to achieve an even, beautiful texture. After this meticulous process, the bamboo strips undergo an additional shaving step before being glued onto panels, making them ready for use in a variety of architectural and design applications.
