A-07Drawing Square Bamboo
ZUMEN KAKUCHIKU | 図面角竹
Bamboo with a square cross-section, created by fitting a square wooden frame over a young bamboo shoot. As the bamboo grows, it takes on the shape of the frame, resulting in flat sides. After removing the frame and a mixture of local clay, sand, and chemicals is applied to its surface. The map-like designs result from experienced artisans adjusting various conditions and brushwork, making it a product of both natural processes and craftsmanship.
